How to Make a Friend

How_to_make_a_friend-01

You might’ve clicked this this article expecting jokes. There’s no way. Who in the right mind would write an article about how to make friends? Well, you’re in for a surprise. I learned about some cool information in my Life Science class the other week that I want to share with y’all.

1. Give people gifts

Doesn’t have to be a Lambo. Doesn’t have to be something elaborate. Doesn’t even have to cost more than $5. My challenge to you is to give a gift to someone each week. It could be a stranger. It could be a friend of yours. But seriously, try it. It’ll change the way people see you. More importantly, it’ll change how you view others. You might have fears about people believing you’re being strange or fake or weird or manipulative cause you want a favor, but the person receiving the gift won’t think so. They’ll believe that you did something nice for them because you wanted to. Because deep down, everybody wants to get free stuff.

2. Thank people who help you

When you help out others often enough you’ll come to suppose that others are helping you with the same intentions. You’ll come to see the world as a better, nicer place. And that’ll help you to become more appreciative, and thankful. PRO TIP: People like being genuinely thanked. Write them a thank you note. Look them in the eye and say thank you ___(name), I appreciate it. Works wonders.

I’ve given you just two steps here. It might not seem like a lot, and you might close this article and forget about it fifteen minutes later when you’re on Buzzfeed or listening to Kanye, but if there’s anything I’d like you to away from this is this: these two things are not easy to do. But if you constantly expose yourself to people who believe these things, you will gradually come to do so also. Happy midterms week, Bruins.
